Your Pet Tributes

'Wally Bannister'

by Delaney
(Melrose, MA)

Wally was the perfect dog. I know that everyone says this about their canine companions, but the reason why it is usually true is simple: a dog always knows how to be the your best friend. The means through which the dog achieves this devotion may differ with each case, but the resulting mutual adoration is always guaranteed.

My dog, my little man, my brother, died today around 11 in the morning, and my life will never be the same. It's quite simple: he was my first pet, and my childhood. He taught me the value of love. I have honestly never loved a man as much as I loved my budley. I love him so much, it's just terrible and wonderful all at once.

He was small, white, with frizzy curls and a soft face, which always reminded me of a seal's. His brown eyes were simply brimming with intelligence and, usually, orneriness. I can't help but cry now when I think of how many times he frustrated me, because that was what made him so special. He was our little Houdini, always in trouble, but always eager to scramble up into my lap and share the hours. Oh, I don't think I can continue on, it is just so hard.

And so, I pay this tribute to our dog, Wally, who died suddenly of a small tumor in his liver today at the age of 13 1/2 years. I thought we would have more time with you bud, and I regret that I was not with you in your last moments, but I hope you know that I loved you fiercely as you did me, and that I will carry your memory in my happiest of places until we meet again. I love you with all I have to give.

Goodbye,

Delaney
