I Will See You Again

December 2012 I had to move from Alaska to Florida. It has to do with health reasons, so it was a quick move. I had to rehome a pet and I searched and interviewed many people/families and finally decided on a "friend" that said he and his wife would love to take my Zoey in and love her and provide her with a new home. I was thrilled that I had found her a home and he was a good guy and she would be safe. The deal was that if for any reason he couldn't keep her, he was to call me and I would have her shipped to me in Florida.

Well, time went by and I messaged him a few times and got no response. Finally, he emailed me that he and his wife couldn't provide her the level of care that they felt she required and that she was more human than dog and that they had decided to rehome her. They had rehomed her 4 weeks earlier and had never contacted me about me getting her back. So, I asked for the new owners name and a contact number and he refused to provide any info to me. I wanted to know if she was ok and talk to the new owner and let him/her know her likes and dislikes and to give them some of her favorite baby bowls that I prepared for her. (Yogurt and a scrambled egg) By now, I am freaking out because I can't get any info on her, I am contacting all animal rescue centers in the area, sending out faxes to all area vets with her info and to contact me if they saw her. No response from anyone. I was totally heartbroken! I've put ads on craigslist and paid for a Pet Amber Alert to be sent out! My heart is broken, I can't get her out of my mind and the guilt is eating me up. Here I am.... living in Florida and my dog is "somewhere out there."

It's now August and I went back to Alaska to look for her and spent two weeks looking for her and didn't have any luck. I have now decided that I have to say goodbye to her so that I can have some peace. Tomorrow, I am going to the beach and taking a balloon and a rose, I plan to release the balloon and let her go. I will toss the rose into the ocean and lay her to rest until that one day when I see her again. I will see you again my beloved girl. I will see you again and I will never let you go. My heart is broken and for anyone that has to rehome a pet, please make sure you sign a contract with the new owner in case they decide to get rid of the dog you can prove that the dog was yours to start with and that there was a verbal/written agreement for the new owner to contact you if they can't keep the dog.
I love you Zoey and tomorrow you are set free. I will see you again!

I love you my Z Dog, my Zoey Girl, my chunk butt! I love you and I miss you and I will never forget you.
