'Elfie - Gone Suddenly'

by Storme Illingworth
(South Africa)

You live on only in my memories
After you were ripped from my life
So suddenly and unexpectedly
The pain went through me like a knife

I can feel your big brown eyes
Telling me, begging me to be strong.
You always were so very wise,
But not grieving for you feels wrong.

You were always there, lying in your bed.
Ready to leap up and help
Ready to make sure my hand always found your head
Ready to take care of a new whelp.

Elfie, Fred. My love for you will never fade,
It will remain forever in my heart.
Where the imprint you have made
Will stay even though we had to part.
