'For Willie'

to my little man today,
It was time for him to go,
though I wanted him to stay.
He's been so very faithful
and always loved me so.
My heart is nearly breaking
'cause I had to let him go.
"You've always been a good boy
and my love for you is deep."
I told him as I rubbed his belly
and he went on to sleep.
Now go on, run and bark,
to your little hearts' content.
I'll be with you again,
when my days here I have spent.
