Brown Sugar
One day while I was coming home from work. Walking in the door. My wife comes to me and tells me that my cousin's wife has a Guinea pig they had bought for their kids and was wondering if we might want her. I told her we don't need anymore pets baby. We already had four turtles and getting a Guinea pig would just be another mouth to feed, she said okay.
The next day she comes from outside and says before you say no I want you to look at her and see how cute she is. I looked down and saw the most unusual looking Guinea I had ever seen. My wife says this is Bella isn't she adorable, I said yeah she is cute. She said look at her little paws at her big beautiful eyes. I said you really want her she said yes. So we take Bella into our home and she became part of our family.
It wasn't long before my wife started getting her out of her cage and bringing her to our bed to pet her and secretly get me attached to her. The first time my wife brought her out to our room I asked her what's her name she said Bella I was like okay, I suggested calling her Brown Sugar because of the beautiful brown highlights on her dark black fur, my wife loved it.
Before long Brown Sugar was everywhere we went in the house. People would come over all the time to see her and hold her. She would lick my wife and me on the arms hands and fingers all the time but she didn't like finger nails she would try to chew them. She would squeak any time she heard a bag rattle, she was addicted to lettuce. She would run around the living room crawling under furniture and tables looking for places to hide. I would take her in our room put her on the bed and cover her up with me, she would stretch herself out and go to sleep. She often find the edge of the cover and push it up with her nose and crawl under it. We shared apples, bananas grapes and pears together. I couldn't cut a apple up with out her knowing it. We had her for three happy years.
Then a week ago I came home from a friend's house and my wife told me she had cleaned little Sugar's cage and she seemed kind of thin. I didn't think much of it. The next day I woke up and got me something to drink and went to check on little Sugar and saw she wasn't as big as before. It snowed that night couldn't get out anywhere to do anything about our baby. The next day took her to the vet, said she had an ear infection and sent us home with ear drops. The next day they called to see how she was doing as far as eating. I told them she still wasn't eating. They recommended we see a emergency vet hospital so took her to emergency vet.
They saw her and said she was not eating probably because of her molar teeth were probably infected and their wouldn't be any Guinea pig specialist working until Monday. They sent us home with medicine and emergency slurry supplies to get her through the weekend. So I didn't sleep at all that night I took our little Brown Sugar and wrapped her up in her favorite blanket laying her on my chest staying up with her all night until my wife came and woke me up saying I need to go to bed. Later that morning the next thing I hear is my son crying Mom and Dad, Sugar is dead, my wife said no, no. He told us he got up to see how she was doing and saw her laying there lifeless. He took her out and tried to wake her up. That's when he came woke us up.
We buried her yesterday on Saint Patrick's day. Brown Sugar you will always have my heart buried with you in your final resting place. I know god is watching you now, until we can see you again one day. We love you baby.
