'Our Last Night With Jessie'

by Don
(Omaha, NE, USA)

I am about to be separated from my daily companion of nearly the last 10 years. My sweet little girl Jessie or Jessie May as me and my wife call her. A truly loveable yellow Lab.

Tomorrow she goes in for an ultrasound but I know in my heart she is very sick and probably won't be coming home. I've known this for only a few days. It all started to go downhill so fast. Less than a week ago she was normal, fetching balls, her greatest passion, going for walks, eating.

I am periodically just overcome by waves of overwhelming grief. Crying uncontrollably, unable to talk. But somehow I have to suck it up for tomorrow and face my responsibility with courage and dignity and help her take that last step to the other side. She will be better off where she is going. I will see her again.

Please pray for us. Thank you.
