This past Christmas, my wife and I had discussed getting a pet. There were many factors that influenced us, but on December 23rd, we brought home Jacob, a 3 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Right off the bat, he was a handful. Everything he could find was in his mouth, from towels, to our son's legos. Luckily, no incidents. He was a bundle of hyperactive joy, and he never hesitated to find a lap to sleep on.
When I moved from TN to MO, I noticed that he wasn't as active, started being sick, and lost a lot of energy, so I did what any responsible pet parent would do and took him to the vet. Three days later, I got a call, saying my dog had Dysautonomia. Two days later, I made the hardest decision I have ever had to make which was to put him to sleep.
I was and am crushed. At ten months old, it is way too soon to have to say goodbye to a loved pet. I miss him still, and I know he is running free and happy, with his big floppy ears bouncing around on the Rainbow Bridge. And I know I will one day see him again.
