I too lost a beloved pet recently (over three months ago now already) and began to think after the worst-possible tragedy of my mortality and how my own death would hurt those in my life. I did not *truly* consider the one upside to our mortality; you reminded me of it, and it was a very good thing to hear.
I'm very sorry for the loss of your Jeter and for your feelings of worry over Griffey (I can relate in this way too; I worry all the time about my surviving cat). Maybe we pet owners are in a way cursed, but I think we are blessed more than anything. Thank you again for sharing and my thoughts and prayers go out to you.
