I feel your pain...
by: Amber

2 months ago we had to put down our Stanley, he was the most amazing little rat... he even managed to potty train himself so that he'd never pee on us... he got mico (respiratory disease) and was so bad off he was gasping for air by the end... was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do... but, he was suffering, all he ever wanted was to be with us... I miss him with every inch of my being... I miss how warm he was, his soft fur against my neck and the way he'd nuzzle under my ear, and that noise you spoke of, the clicking, is called bruxing and boy do I miss hearing my Little Stanner Man's bruxing, always knew he was happy when he did that. I think of him every day... several times a day... We have others but, just not the same... Thank you for sharing your story... it touched my heart.

I understand
by: Anonymous

I've shared my life with over 40 pet rats, among many other pets, and I can tell you that rats are such loving, devoted, and caring companion animals. The grief you feel losing one of them is as profound as any other pet. When we love any animal and form a bond with them, it hurts deeply when they need to go home. I've experienced what you have; where the rat just wants to be with you. Your grief is real. Murphy was a lucky rat in that he had someone who cared for him and who was there for him when he needed/wanted it. My deepest condolences on your loss. If you still have the other rat, give him extra attention, as they also grieve the loss of their companion. I hope your grief heals soon. All best to you.

Mousie

I understand how you feel completely. I just lost Mousie - my pet White Russian Dwarf Hamster. It was actually my twin girls pet, but became mine after they lost interest. So here I am, a 46 year old mother of 2 grieving the loss of my pet hamster. I just submitted his loss story today under "Mousie"

Murphy
by: Linda

Please don't feel it is ever silly to grieve over a pet, no matter what kind of animal it is. When you feed, care for, and love an animal every day it is natural for a special bond to develop. Murphy had a short but very good life with you.

I grieve over my dogs the most, but I still miss the gerbils I had many years ago. Hansel, Gretel and Stubby were so cute and kept us entertained. We loved them even though they were with us such a short time.

What a wonderful story. Murphy was a good friend. Sorry for your loss.

Margaret - hugs
