Stephen and Dinner's Story so far

In the late Spring of 2000 I was given a kitten. I lived in a cabin in the woods and was having mouse problems, so I thought a cat would help. As it was around noon when I was given the kitten, I called her "Lunch". She was all black with very silver-green eyes.

She grew up quickly and before I knew it was pregnant. In the middle of the night I assisted with the birth of three kittens. Two looked identical to their mother, so I named them "Breakfast" and "Dinner" respectively. The third was a Siamese coloring, so she became "Snack". They were born on August 28, 2000. My fiance at the time saw to it that the entire kitty family was spayed as soon as the kittens were old enough.

My fiance and I were married soon thereafter and became a complete family; she with her two young boys and me with my catz. We eventually rescued two other cats and had acquired two small dogs (both rescues as well).

Exactly a year ago, the dogs killed Breakfast. I was heartbroken. I love the dogs dearly and I understand the prey-drive in dogs. One is a mixed Chihuahua and Jack Russell Terrier and the other is a mixed Corgi and English Bull Terrier.

Today I stepped out for literally minutes and returned to find Dinner dead on the kitchen floor. It is typical for use to enclose the dogs in the kitchen behind gates whenever we leave, but I did not do it for the few minutes I was gone. I don't think it would have mattered.

Dinner was a very sweet cat with a very faint voice and a gentle, reserved nature. As I had done with her sister a year ago, I held her lifeless body in my arms and told her that I loved her and said goodbye. I will put her to rest tomorrow.

Thank you Breakast and Dinner for sharing your lives with us. We miss you both. You will always have a very special place in our hearts.
