Jeter
by: Kathy

These kind of days will overcome you for awhile. My eyes filled with tears knowing how much you miss him and don't want him gone...just like I still don't want my "Shadow" to be gone.

No dog can replace another dog but we can learn to love another dog. Remember, Jeter would not want you to be so sad. He loved you and wants you to go on without him, just like he would have to do if something had happened to you.

The day I had my faithful companion of 14 years put down, a stray dog came running up to my patio later that afternoon jumping around and acting goofy. He didn't look like my dog but acted just like "Shadow" did when he was a young guy. I wanted to pet him but he just wagged his tail and ran off looking at me all the way. That was "my boy" letting me know he was OK, he was happy.

Jeter's spirit will always be with you and my guess is he's still greeting you each day as you arrive home and is at your side as you feed and work your horses. The ultimate act of love is to end the suffering of a animal even though your heart is breaking--what a beautiful tribute to your "spoiled child."

Your story brought tears streaming down my face reading of your sorrow. 'My Shadow' died a month ago and I'm still unable to remove his dish from the kitchen floor. However, I still love dogs and am able to enjoy petting other dogs even though I miss mine so much. Some people can never truly understand the love and bond between a dog and it's human companion. When they die, a part of us dies with them. Your expression of honesty and sorrow can be understood my many of us who come here to grieve.

Thank You
