'A Herd of Elephants'

by Jennifer
(Ohio)

My dog Carter had been feeble with arthritis for many years, he was put to sleep 1-5-13. It's been a very long time that I heard this sound by the side of my bed, like a herd of elephants jumping and shuffling on the floor. I was awakened, startled by the sound. It was not one dog but two it seemed.... Carter was running and jumping with his brother Bailey.... they were young... strong... in the prime of their life. Happy and free.

I believe this wasn't a dream, but them letting me know they are happy and together again. I couldn't sleep as I was quite alarmed by the sound. Now that morning has come it makes me happy to know Carter and Bay are still with us in spirit. Strong and happy... so much different than a few days ago, when Carter lay weak and in pain. It makes me feel I did the right thing.

Suffering in silence
by: Joanne

We just never know how much they really hurt, as they suffer quietly in silence. But we know our pets, we see them slowly slipping away, little by little every day. A little less eager to go for a walk, struggling to get up. It was the most difficult decision I ever had to make to let her go (03-09-13) but it broke my heart every time I'd see her stumble on her weak legs. I do have faith and believe that she will be whole again when we meet at the Rainbow Bridge. You are not alone, I share your pain. It's important now that you take care of you, that's the best memorial you can pay to your pet.

Beloved Dogs
by: Coral (UK)

I had to put my beloved Springer Spaniel Ralph to sleep on 5th Nov 2011. He too was greatly weakened by arthritis and in a lot of pain. I too have heard my boy in the months after he passed and it does give you strength that you made the right decision. But oh how hard to get left behind to grieve. But we know we will be with our furry friends again when our time comes.
My thoughts are with you. Coral, Warwickshire x
