Your Pet Loss Poems

'The Pet Prayer'

by Donna M. Davis-Prusik
(Atchison, Kansas, USA)

Wokka stumbled into our lives on Labor Day with a heavily matted coat and never left, until he passed away...

Wokka stumbled into our lives on Labor Day with a heavily matted coat and never left, until he passed away...

Oh Lord above
Father and Creator of all
Man and Creature, Great and Small
I come to thee filled with adoration
Willingly executing my station on Earth
As servant, comforter and protector of Man
I ask that Thee give ear to my plea.

When he is sad, I make him laugh
When he is lonely, I am his companion
When he is in danger, or not, I am always on guard
Throughout all I am Loved, cared for
Companioned and protected by my Human,
Though my Journey through Life has just begun.

At times my pain is great, but will soon be done
My paws have traveled great distances
At times they chap and bleed
But I will not complain
For my weary mind and troubled souls
Will soon be eased by Your Countenance

Lord, I one of your humble and faithful servants
Come to Thee, burdened with Life's pains
And ask merely, that I be allowed guidance
Through the vast emptiness that lies before me
So that I too, may, as Man eventually will,
Be with you throughout Eternity.

Amen...
