Your Pet Loss Stories

'Jessie, My Beloved Girl'

by Jennifer
(Orlando, Fl)

We rescued two year old Pugs, Jessie and Lola in January 2011. They were sisters that could not be separated due to their closeness. Both were so well mannered, house broken, and good natured. You could not ask for two better dogs.

I love both dearly, but Jessie and I had a special bond. I went through a difficult period in Feb 2011. She was always in my lap. As soon as I sat down, she was there. Her affection and love was amazing. I feel truly lucky to have experienced that even though it was for a short period of time.

On July 11, 2011, I took the girls out for last time for the night. Jessie became violently ill, throwing up and defecating uncontrollably. I took her to the emergency vet that night. When I picked her up that morning, she was more alert, but they couldn't get her body temperature up and she still had the runs. I took her to her regular vet as instructed. By noon, she seemed a bit better, but by late afternoon she took a turn for the worse. She never recovered. I didn't get to say goodbye or tell her how much I loved her and how much she meant to me.

I'm grateful she's not suffering, but my heart aches. A piece of me went with her when she left us. It doesn't seem real to me. When I come home, I look for her beautiful face. I know in my heart I must stay strong for Lola and show her how much I love her and comfort her.

Thank you Jessie for showing me unconditional love. You are the most amazing dog I've ever met in my life. I will carry my love and memories for all my life. I promise to love and care for your sister, Lola. Till we meet again friend.
