Pet Memorial Poems

'I Only Wanted You'

'I Only Wanted You' is one of the pet memorial poems that was originally intended to give comfort after human loss.

Many of my favourite pet loss poems. were clearly written with human loss in mind, but as you will learn in the 'Stages of Grief' pages, the stages of grief you will go through in pet loss are identical to those of human loss.

Human loss and grief poems and pet loss poems can all be enjoyed and appreciated by those suffering a loss, whether it be human or animal, because we have all lost a loved one and someone who was precious to us.

I Only Wanted You

They say memories are golden

well maybe that is true.

I never wanted memories,

I only wanted you.

A million times I needed you,

a million times I cried.

If love alone could have saved you

you never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,

In death I love you still.

In my heart you hold a place

no one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway

and heartache make a lane,

I'd walk the path to heaven

and bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken,

and nothing seems the same.

But as God calls us one by one,

the chain will link again.
