'Dogs Should Come With Warnings'

by Benji
(North Carolina)

Dogs should come with warnings,
about the pain they'll one day bring.
When their heart stops beating,
and they cease to be.

Dogs should come with warnings,
so you'll be prepared for sorrow.
So that you'll be ready when you go to sleep,
and they're not there tomorrow.

Dogs should come with warnings,
because their lives are so short.
So you'll be ready for that day,
when they're no longer waiting by the door.

Dogs should come with warnings,
when you open your heart and let them in.
So that you'll be ready for that day,
when you lose a kind and gentle friend.

Dogs should come with warnings,
so you'll be ready for the pain.
So that when they're gone you'll understand,
they won't be there again.

But if dogs came with warnings,
I still wouldn't turn away.
For all the dogs I've loved and lost,
have made me who I am today.
